ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE WELCOMES ALL TO EXPERIENCE THE 2018 FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT ART INSTALLATION WEEKDAYS THROUGH DEC. 5

St. Philip’s College students frequently display works of art as part of classes in the college’s Watson Fine Arts Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive, but this year 13 students welcome all to experience something different---a free art installation underway weekdays through Dec. 5

Fine arts faculty intern Nicole Geary is one of several faculty members at the college responsible for the art installations that dominate the first floor hallway exhibit space of the center.

“The students are making these projects in our art classes and I wanted to showcase some of their work to our visitors and the other students,” Geary said.

“I used to put up work as an adjunct faculty member, and when I started this fall as a faculty intern, I began doing it again. The other faculty are also hanging work to encourage our students to be proud of their accomplishments and to show off what we do here in the Fine Arts Department. Since we have no formal gallery, the hallways serve as an exhibition space for their projects."

Geary said the 13 participating student artists are enjoying the installation experience.

“The students have said that it feels good to see their art hanging up because it makes them feel as if their work is valued and they can show it to their friends,” Geary said.

“The event so far has been pretty informal, but the exhibition is a rotating display of the students’ works until Dec. 5, when the artwork has to come down for finals week. I would love it if visitors could join in to see the artworks via our social media platform. I have documented some of the work and we are always looking for content to share with the SPC social media outlets,” said Geary.

The 13 St. Philip’s College students whose works are making their display debut at the installation are Jessica Castro, Brianna Crenshaw, Madison Cuenca, Jocelyn Flores, Stephen Herrera, Jr., Ja'Vaughn Jorden-Evans, Elizabeth Luis, Derly Martinez, Wayne Powell, Brandon Lee Puente, Debbie Ramirez, Donovan Sanchez and Shadi Zadeh.
