ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE HOSTS CROSSPOINT, INC.’S 12TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY RESOURCE FAIR

St. Philip's College hosted Crosspoint, Inc.’s 12th Annual Community Resource Fair Oct. 13 in the college’s Bowden Alumni Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive.

The community correctional services agency provides a bevy of services to tens of thousands of veteran, state hospital patients and formerly incarcerated men and women as well as individuals experiencing issues related to homelessness, mental illness, mental disability and financial responsibility. In 2009, the agency began providing a 100-bed structured residential program and corporate headquarters in the iconic 86,000 square feet The Summit property at 301 Yucca St. for formerly incarcerated citizens including about 30 veterans transitioning back into society, 30 new offices and a current residential capacity of 95.

While the 2017 version of the Crosspoint event was also held at the college, the 2018 season event coincided with the 2018 Texas Veterans Service Fair at the St. Philip’s College Good Samaritan Veterans Outreach and Transition Center at 202 Connelly St., and Dr. Kevin J. Downey attended both events in his capacity as Crosspoint chief executive officer. At Crosspoint’s fair, many residents and their families gained access to a bevy of community agency representatives. One-on-one interaction to benefit residents by building their understanding of how community services work and in turn built their contacts and confidence to reach out for support, according to organizers.

In 1963, a group of San Antonio citizens formed Crosspoint as a chartered nonprofit corporation for the purpose of providing residential facilities that would aid in the rehabilitation of persons with emotional and psychological problems. A St. Philip’s College veteran student is among the honored alumni recognized online at the Crosspoint web page http://www.cpsatx.org/HonoredGraduates.php …
