San Antonio College has partnered with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) to offer classes toward an associate degree. The classes, to be held at the sheriff’s office, will be open to sheriff’s employees, their families, and the community.

The partnership is based on a shared mission between SAC and the BCSO of making college available to empower the San Antonio community.

“San Antonio College is excited about this new partnership and opportunity,” said SAC Interim President Dr. Francisco Solis. “We want to offer a quality college education where people work and live in order to provide a successful academic foundation for their future.”

“San Antonio College made a huge difference in my career,” said Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, a SAC graduate. “I’m thankful they will continue to help me by opening doors for my employees, as well as the community we serve.”

In the spring of 2023, SAC will offer courses in core curriculum subjects, such as government and history, as well as a student development class to help students transition to college and improve the skills needed for academic success. In addition, SAC will offer courses in criminal justice and drug and alcohol counseling.

Students attending classes at the BSCO will be considered SAC students and will have access to student support services, including the library, advising, tutoring, and the Student Advocacy Center. Students will be able to earn an associate degree by attending classes at the BSCO, through remote learning, and attending SAC.

Students will be able to earn a degree in any program, including criminal justice and law enforcement.

In the future, SAC and the BSCO will expand this partnership into other academic areas. Plans are being considered to offer internships for SAC students at the sheriff’s office and for qualified members of the sheriff’s staff to serve as adjunct faculty at SAC.
