St. Philip’s College and the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office and Global Engagement Office collaborated in October to participate in an international chef exchange with San Antonio Sister City Gwangju, South Korea during the virtual Gwangju World Kimchi Festival.

Culinary students from Chef Patrick Costello’s International Cuisine class learned from a renowned kimchi master and San Antonio Chef Ambassador Stephen Paprocki.

The following students participated in the exchange: Rayna Aguero, Jairo Cardoso, Rosa Boyle, Nathan Bravo, Cassandra Carbonell, Fernanda Correa, Aaron Gonzalez, Erica Garcia, Lanette Hamilton, Ladonna Jones, Edward Meriwether, Chelsie Onken, and Gregory Peeler.

Earlier this year, St. Philip's College was named to the 10 Best Culinary Schools in Texas in 2021 list by Best Value Schools (BVS). The Tourism, Hospitality, and Culinary Arts (THCA) programs at St. Philip’s College prepare aspiring hospitality industry professionals for success and service within their industry.

The tourism industry is vital to the San Antonio and South Texas economy. Approximately 37 million people visit San Antonio per year, and the tourism industry has an estimated $15.2 billion impact on the city's economy.
