The City of San Antonio’s Office of Sustainability awarded the St. Philip’s College CultureFest and Rib Cook-Off event with the Verde Level certification. The certification offers a green environmental recognition to events in San Antonio who exercise a healthier and “greener” FIESTA experience during their events. Recycling options, healthy food choices, smoke-free events and environmentally friendly transportation are among the options reviewed in order to obtain the certification. Verde is the highest green initiative certification offered by the City of San Antonio.

The certification will mark a significant achievement as SPC celebrates its 25th Anniversary FIESTA event. The event offers an on-campus culturally-diverse FIESTA experience to the Eastside community, SPC students, faculty, staff and families. The college, now in its 122nd year, makes a charitable impact during Fiesta by utilizing 100 percent of the proceeds for student scholarships.

The family-friendly event includes an opening ceremony featuring FIESTA royalty, a car show, live music, food, dance, games and a celebrity-judged rib competition.
