Students Attend Investiture Ceremony 和 Meet Tuskegee Airmen

St. Philip’s 大学 students were invited to attend the investiture on 2月 20, 2020, 杰森·普利姆法官, the first African American judge to be appointed to the bench in the U.S. 区 Court’s Western 区 of Texas.

The success of the Tuskegee Airmen proved to the American public that African Americans could become effective military leaders 和 pilots. It also helped set the stage for civil rights advocates to continue their struggle to end racial discrimination during the civil rights movement.

今天, African Americans make up about 7 percent of 圣安东尼奥’s population; most of whom reside in the city’s Eastside. As a point of pride in the Eastside community, St. 菲利普的大学, 成立于1898年, is a comprehensive public college whose mission is to empower its diverse student population through educational achievement 和 career readiness.

“As a student, having these experiences 和 opportunities allows me to prepare for my career. I learned a lot from Pulliam, especially from his journey through life, it was inspiring,” said Criminal Justice student Jacqueline Brown.

As a Historically Black 大学 和 Hispanic Serving Institution, St. 菲利普的大学 is a vital facet of the community, responding to the needs of a population rich in ethnic, 文化, 社会经济多样性. 在2月份, the campus hosted a series of events to motivate, 激励, 和 enlighten the SPC community in honor of Black History Month. 去年秋天, Pulliam served as the keynote speaker to a cohort of over 350 students during SPC's commencement ceremony.
