St. Philip’s College was recently ranked among the top 50 Best Online Community Colleges in the United States by CollegeConsensus.com. The rating score is based on web presence, transparency and user-friendliness of learning platforms. San Antonio College and Central Texas College are among the other local community colleges on the list.

St. Philip’s currently offers 11 degrees and 6 certificate programs entirely online. The online offerings utilize the learning platform CANVAS for online programming. The platform provides students the opportunity to engage in class discussions through message boards, meet with faculty members, view lectures and submit regular assignments, including presentations.

Through SPC’s Center for Distance Learning, students can access resources designed to support the unique needs of online courses. Services such as Online Orientation and Brainfuse, a 24/7 online tutoring, are easily accessible through CANVAS.

Last year, the college received the 2019 Quality Matters Learner Support Certification which recognizes online instruction, innovative digital teaching and learning environments. St. Philip’s is the third community college in the nation to earn this type of certification.

Most recently, the college transitioned over 8,000 students and 650+ employees to 100% remote delivery as traditional teaching models upended due to COVID-19. Despite the sudden shift, faculty and staff continue to work collectively to provide students the services and support necessary to promote collegiate success.

“From online zoom meetings with advisors and staff to providing tons of resources for me to remain active and engaged as a student, SPC helped to make the transition to remote learning smooth. Even from home, I feel the support of the college as I finish out the semester and prepare for classes this summer,” said SPC student Nya Thornton.

SPC will continue remote teaching and learning through the end of the Maymester, Summer I and Summer II semesters. To learn more about the programs offered online, click here.
