SPC to Hold Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for Grab ‘N Go Food Pantry

St. Philip’s College (SPC) will hold a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for campus Grab ‘N Go Food Pantry on October 10th from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at the Sutton Learning Center (SLC), Room 102.

With the support of the San Antonio Food Bank, SPC aims to target hunger and food insecurity through the reinstated campus food pantry. The pantry which provides non-perishable food and toiletries to students in need has served over 500 students with 2,000 meals since opening in January 2019.

Additionally, The Food Bank will announce a commitment to students across the Alamo Colleges District of $1.5mm in food scholarships as well as an additional $1.5mm in SNAP benefits. The San Antonio Food Bank will also announce the placement of a full-time staff member at each Alamo College campus to provide a suite of food services; encompassing food for today, food for tomorrow, and food for lifetime strategies.

Dr. Mike Flores, Chancellor of Alamo Colleges District, Dr. Adena Williams Loston, President of St. Philip’s College, and Mr. Eric Cooper, President & CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank are expected to speak at the event.

Career development, counseling, disability, and financial literacy are among the other services available to students at the SPC Safe SPACE Advocacy Center. Safe SPACE exists to empower our college community through academic, economic and social engagement initiatives to promote self-efficacy and awareness.
