What is the Communication Design program?

The Communication Design Program provides general education and training in the field of visual communications through both traditional and digital design course offerings.

What will I learn?

Students learn to think critically, conduct research to collect materials for use in visual communication problem solving, and develop hands-on experience with current industry-standard software including Adobe CC. Students also learn to set realistic goals leading to the completion of design projects within the specified time frame, employ the steps of the critique process using a vocabulary of relevant design terms and technical terminology, and present design projects both formally and conceptually.

What can I do with this course of study?

Our two-year (60 hrs) curriculum leads to an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Communication Design and a one-year (16 hrs) Level One Certificate in Communication Design. Graduates may find careers as Graphic Designers, Web Developers, Multimedia Artists/Animators, Art Directors, Prepress Technicians, and Desktop Publishers.

What's special about the program?

The program facility includes modern studios and four computer classrooms supported by Mac multimedia workstations and one studio for traditional illustration study. Program advising is offered to students twice a year by full-time faculty. Students must seek advisement before enrolling in Communication Design courses. Qualified students may be eligible for scholarships and internship opportunities. Many students have also won local, national, and international design competitions. The semi-annual Student Portfolio Exhibition showcases the best work by graduating students.
