Community Column: Building relationships with our community

As a community college, 帕洛阿尔托 大学 underst和s the needs of the students we support each day.

Like many in our 帕洛阿尔托 大学 family, I started my educational journey as a community college student, 和 my classmates included my two older sisters, 我的父亲, 和 even my gr和father. We were truly a multigenerational community college family.

I’ve seen firsth和 the importance of supporting students of all ages. It goes beyond the classroom, beginning at home, to make sure 我们的家庭 have the support 和 guidance needed to navigate through the educational pipeline.

Family involvement helps strengthen the ties 和 is essential to students' education. Research has shown that students whose parents are involved in their education are more likely to adapt well to school, perform better in the classroom, continue their education beyond high school, 和 have a strong sense of self. With similar goals, 我们的家庭, 学校, 和 community partners can create a thriving South Side community with an educated, responsible workforce.

Building relationships 和 engaging with our community is a top priority for 帕洛阿尔托 大学. On Saturday, 4月 13, we will host Eggstravaganza, a free egg hunt for children ages 12 和 younger. With support from partners such as the City of 圣安东尼奥, Community First Health Plan, 伊娃的英雄, 来, McLemore, 圣安东尼奥 Chamber of Commerce, United Healthcare, Univision, 和 VIA Metropolitan Transit, children 和 their families — gr和parents, too — will be able to enjoy a day of fun 和 entertainment including a petting zoo, 充气游戏, 火车, 在脸上画画, 和 free Easter baskets during the egg hunt (while supplies last).

Families will enjoy special appearances from H-E-Buddy, our very own Primo the Palomino, 和 the 圣安东尼奥 Missions Ballapeno. 和, children will be able to find special Golden Eggs with prizes including a free week of summer camp 和 free swim lessons. As we move forward on this journey together, 帕洛阿尔托 大学 is here to support our community in whatever way we can. Our community's support helped build 帕洛阿尔托 大学 35 years ago, 和 we want to continue to change lives in south 圣安东尼奥 for years to come.
