Meet Elizabeth, she will be receiving an Associate of Science Degree with a concentration in Biology. Elizabeth, who is originally from North Carolina, moved to Texas to challenge herself, gain experience and begin her career.

Elizabeth currently works at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Alamo Heights, where she has served as a Unit Secretary for two years. Although she spends most weeks working over 40 hours, she has managed to balance the demand of academia as well as her busy work schedule. She finds support through her coworkers who encourage her to continue working towards her dream.

Her desire to make a difference in the lives of children led her to begin the journey of becoming a pediatric surgeon. “I love kids, I want to do everything in my power to help them,” she said.

Elizabeth felt the urgency to complete her degree after the passing of her brother and grandmother. “When they passed away, they knew I had begun my studies. I have to make them proud and reach the finish line.”

Elizabeth plans to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio as a pre-med major next fall. She hopes to finish her studies with the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Her long-term goal is to have the opportunity to serve children at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
