SIX CONSTRUCTION STUDENT CLUB MEMBERS AT ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE HAVE COMPLETED THEIR TEAM’S FIRST PROJECT ON THE WESTSIDE OF SAN ANTONIO

Six construction student club members at St. Philip's College have completed their team’s first project on the Westside of San Antonio.

“An elderly resident was not enjoying a modern comfort most of us take for granted,” according to Gilbert Noriega and Carlos Garza, construction technology and plumbing faculty members who mentored the students in the Zupan Project that draws its name for the street name of the rehabbed residence.

The team of mostly first-year students included Quentin Rodriguez, Chis Wall, Victor Villarreal, Samuel Velez, Luis Ortega and Brandon Fox.

The Zupan Project was identified in a series of new college club partnerships.

After a partnership was formed with the authorities at Westside Education Center and the Westside Neighborhood Corporation, those partners worked with the Edgewood Independent School District Police Department, “to locate a tenant who could use assistance,” Noriega explained.

“The club was been working long and hard this past semester to focus on projects close to home,” said Noriega. “With the help of one class of apprentice plumbers, this elderly woman is now enjoying a modern comfort most of us take for granted... indoor plumbing,” Noriega said.
